Big Spring Superintendent Richard Fry

Big Spring Superintendent Richard Fry, center, presents the family of former Bulldog great Rick Gilliam with his No. 69 jersey during Gilliam’s jersey retirement ceremony in 2017. Fry, who plans to retire this summer, missed just three Bulldog football games in 16 years as Big Spring Superintendent prior to the 2020 season.

While you don’t often see district superintendents attend sporting events, Big Spring Superintendent Richard Fry has spent 16-plus years glued to the sidelines.

Fry, who recently announced his plans to retire this summer, has missed just three Big Spring football games as superintendent prior to this past season -- a year where COVID-19 restrictions limited spectators. He worked double duty most nights, more often than not attending a Big Spring High School sporting event or concert.
