Dear Editor,
I am reaching out to you on behalf of the Circle of Love Sock and Clothing Drive at Shippensburg University. For the Social Work 370: Practice with Organizations and Communities class, my peers and I have organized a clothing drive for individuals and families in need within the community. From this assignment, we have learned that 1 in 6 children in the United States are living in poverty, and 2 out of 5 American children are unable to adequately dress themselves every day. This is alarming, considering the fact that for school-age children, not having appropriate clothing has been found to be one of the top reasons that they miss school.
For the clothing drive, we are asking for new or lightly worn bras, as well as brand new socks and underwear. Those are the most highly requested items among individuals in need, and they will be especially useful for those in need as the weather gets colder. As Social Work students in the community, we feel very strongly about this topic, and we urge others to get involved and donate. We are accepting donations until Nov. 15. The locations of our donation boxes are: The Lehman Library, The CUB, Shippen Hall 3rd floor, Coy Public Library and Mowersville Church. We are also accepting cash donations and Venmo donations to purchase items for the drive. The handle for Venmo donations is: RegynaG. For more info, email: regynagantt11@gmail.com.
