James ‘Ron’ Weaver

James “Ron” Weaver, 88, of Orrstown, departed this life on the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1932, in Orrstown, a son of the late James J. and Ora (Myers) Weaver. Ron married his partner of 26 years, Dixie Coons, on Aug. 8, 2011, in West Virginia.

Ron did many things for work over the years. He was a soil sampler for Valley Quarries from where he retired. He also farmed for most of his life, naming his farm the “Little Critter Farm.”

Ron loved horses in general, but he was most known for raising miniature horses and pigs. He also sold furniture as the owner and operator of the New and Used Outlet (now Jimmy J’s Furniture & More), for 25 years, before turning it over to his grandson.

Ron was a longtime member of the Orrstown Lodge 262 F&AM.

In his free time, he enjoyed camping, going on long drives, and playing card and board games.

Ron loved his family greatly and loved to spend as much time with them, especially his grandchildren, as he could.

In addition to his wife, Dixie, he is survived by one daughter, Vicki Freelove of Chambersburg; two stepdaughters, Michelle Stouffer and husband, Andy, of Orrstown, and Jamie Thrush and husband, Brian, of Shippensburg; six grandchildren, James “Jimmy’ Weaver and wife, Jaynee, of Orrstown, Brittany Hockenberry of Orrstown, Jennifer Perry and husband, Dick, of Shippensburg, Joshua Stouffer of Orrstown, Viktoria Stouffer of Orrstown, and Blake Thrush of Shippensburg; six great-grandchildren, Bryson Hockenberry, Gabriel Judy (whom Ron and Dixie raised as a child), Lila Weaver, Serenity Judy, Jase Weaver and Joshua Perry; one brother, Harold E. Weaver of Orrstown; one sister, Phyllis Hammond of Edenville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a son, James Richard Weaver; three brothers, Glenn S., Robert E., and Ralph E. Weaver; and one sister, Dorothy Kendig.

His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Ken Reid will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery.

A viewing was held Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m., at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites taking place at 6:30 p.m.
