John C. Stouffer Sr.

John C. Stouffer Sr., 94, of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at Orrstown Personal Care.

Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Newburg, Pennsylvania, he was the eldest of 13 children of John H. and Sylvia (Bowers) Stouffer.

John married Joyce Kyler in 1948. Joyce passed away on June 11, 2020 at Paramount Nursing Home.

They had 6 children, Linda McCulloch (William L.), John Stouffer Jr. (Vicki), Robert Stouffer (Shirley), Timothy Stouffer (Donna), Phillip Stouffer (Dec. 1995), and Pamela Roy (Duane); 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

John was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He later worked at Valley Pride bakery. In the mid-’60s, he started at the post office as a mail carrier and eventually retired as Postmaster of Orrstown; he was a lifelong member of the POS of A; he was co-founder and president of the local coin club; he worked at Sunoco and drove for the Amish; and he bowled in various leagues around the area until his health failed.

John was an avid Phillies fan, enjoyed bowling, hunting, playing cards and big holiday meals. He was a man with many interests and many friends.

He loved his family and was always there when anyone needed him or wanted his company. He will be greatly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life for both John and Joyce will be held at a time to be determined by the family.
