Fastnacht Day

Maplewood Farm Market in Shippensburg was a busy place on Tuesday as shoppers picked up some of the delicious doughnuts and fastnachts made by the employees over a two-day period.

There was quite a sweet and sticky situation taking place at Maplewood Farm Market in Shippensburg between midday Monday and Tuesday morning, as employees worked through the night Monday to produce more than 6,000 doughnuts and fastnachts for Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 16.

According to store manager Rosemary Martin, she and countless others made 6,500 delicious doughnut and fastnacht creations that included a variety of flavors most requested by shoppers. “We had lots and lots of requests for the cream-filled variety of both the fastnachts and doughnuts -- cream-filled probably being the most popular, but the glazed ones are equally as popular,” Martin said. “In addition to the traditional angel crème-filled, we also made Bavarian cream, raspberry filled, glazed and powdered doughnuts and fastnachts.”
