After a roller-coaster discussion regarding the proposed SASD stadium project, the school board Monday approved a motion to bring SitelogIQ into the process of adding a multi-purpose stadium to provide the best design strategy for the growth of the district.

For the last several years, the school board has been discussing plans for building a new stadium and a multi-purpose artificial turf field for football, soccer, field hockey and other school activities. There has been discussion for the stadium to be located on school property or at Veterans Stadium. Many community members feel a new stadium will instill a sense of pride in Shippensburg student-athletes, while others are opposed to building a new multi-million-dollar facility, and wish for the district to work with the Shippensburg Community Parks and Recreation Authority to make much-needed improvements to Veterans Stadium, which is where much of the district’s athletic events are currently held and where the district has had a long-term lease with SCPRA to use the facilities.
