The Enhanced 4,500-pound weight class and the Farm Stock 4,500-pound weight class of the Newville Lions Club Fair’s Tractor Pull on Saturday were dedicated in memory of Merle E. Piper and Joseph E. Piper Sr., respectively.

Merle, who passed away in January of 2009, was very instrumental in the beginning development of the Tractor Pulls at the Newville Lions Fairgrounds, as well as the overall improvement of the fairgrounds. In addition to being a Lion, he also pulled Massey Ferguson tractors from the Piper farm on Mount Rock Road.
