Aaron Dobbs joined the Coy Public Library of Shippensburg’s Board of Trustees in February of 2019. He has served on the FUNdraising Committee, the Public Relations Committee, and the Operations Committee; he is currently the Chairperson for the Public Relations Committee and the Operations Committee. Dobbs is the Scholarly Communication Librarian for the Shippensburg University library.
He has been an avid public library patron since the early 1970s -- an eager reader, but not an eager student until after high school. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wagner College on Staten Island, a Master of Science in Library Science from University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and a Master of Science in Management from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville. Before arriving in Shippensburg, his library career included positions such as “Page” and Library Assistant at the New York Public Library Research Libraries, Public Librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library and at the Chattanooga Public Library, and Academic Librarian at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville. In addition to library employment, Dobbs has been active in the American Library Association (ALA), serving as an advocate for people-focused and library-friendly federal-level information and technology policies through collaborations with the ALA Washington Office.
