Shippensburg Area Senior High School recently held its annual Powderpuff football game with a spirited match between the seniors and sophomores and the juniors and freshmen.

This year the senior/ sophomore team won the game with a score of 26-0, according to Organizer Jocelyn Topper.

This marks the fifth year for the Powderpuff game and so far, the senior/sophomores have won three times and the juniors/ freshman team won twice, she said.

“This game has really become a highlight of the fall season. Many girls from various sports and even girls who have never played a sport sign up. It is great to see them interact and learn a sport they have never played before. It is also fun to see how secretive and creative each team is during practice time, so plays are not given away. It really brings a nice feeling of school spirit to the building in the weeks leading up to the game,” she said.

Topper noted how the entire school brings enthusiasm for the game, even those not taking to the field.

“This year we had the biggest turn out and even requests to cheer for their corresponding grade. The game is all about fun and school spirit and the boy's enthusiasm to cheer on the team dramatically adds to the fun and spirit!” she said.

Powderpuff organizers hope to add even more to next year’s game, according to Topper.
