Big Spring first baseman Madyson Wert slugged a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and the Bulldogs piled on from there, routing rivals Boiling Springs Wednesday at home, 15-0 in three innings.
Wert gave the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-2 Colonial) a three-run edge on the Bubblers (2-3, 0-3 Colonial) just four batters into the ball game with a blast that scored both Emilee Sullivan and Emily Parrish. The junior clean up hitter drove in two additional runs with a sharp line drive single during the Bulldogs' eight-run rally in the third. She finished 2-for-3 with 5 RBIs, and a pair of runs scored.
Wert wasn’t alone in the offensive outburst. All nine Bulldogs – including pinch runner Sadie Groff – scored at least one run. Eight different players recorded at least one hit, and six posted multi-hit games.
Erica Paisley followed Wert's homer with an RBI single as Big Spring posted six first-inning runs. Kirstyn Walters added an RBI single an inning later, while Wert, Kailee Shotto, Jaime Yaukey, Walters, Sydnee Spitz, and Parrish came through with run-scoring hits during the Bulldogs' massive rally in the third.
The Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame, and 11 of the 12 reached base safely.
Parrish finished 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Shotto went 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Walters went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Paisley reached base safely three times (2-for-2, BB) and drove in a pair of runs, and Yaukey tallied a pair of hits and an RBI.
All those runs were more than enough support for starting pitcher Jenna Hurley. The freshman shutdown the Bubbler lineup over three innings (3 H, 2 K) to earn the abbreviated win.
The Lady Bulldogs are back in action with a road make up game against the Palmyra Cougars this Friday beginning at 4:15 p.m.
