Newville Borough Council officially approved the future purchase of a K-9, specifically a patrol dog, earlier this month after hearing a presentation from Officer Shawn Gutshall, a former K-9 handler with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Chief Todd Koser also announced at a previous council meeting the department has raised thousands of dollars for the purchase, including a large commitment from H&H Chevrolet in Shippensburg.
