National Library Week Proclamation

Mayor Randy Finkey recently presented a proclamation to Mary Schoedel, director of the John Graham Public Library, acknowledging National Library Week, April 7-13. Part of the proclamation reads: ‘Whereas, our nation’s libraries are ideally positioned as the community’s center of information technology that stimulates educational and economic opportunity for all; whereas, our libraries have moved far beyond serving as book repositories, becoming agile institutions that serve the real life needs of our citizens, helping to achieve basic literacy, which leads to a better trained and skilled workforce, and a growing economy; whereas, the John Graham Public library has faithfully served the public for over 59 years, fulfilling the educational, cultural and social needs of the Big Spring community,’ noting the library is the ‘cultural hub of Newville.’
