The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners signed a resolution condemning racism and bigotry during a Finance Meeting at the Cumberland County Courthouse earlier this month.
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA CONDEMNING RACISM AND BIGOTRY AND DECLARING SUPPORT FOR THE PURSUIT OF EQUALITY
WHEREAS, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is deeply saddened and concerned by the tragic events that have recently occurred across the country; and WHEREAS, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is expressly opposed to racism, bigotry, hate and violence in any form; and
WHEREAS, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners denounces organizations that promote hate by using threats, violence, symbols associated with hate speech and other misinformation as a means of addressing recent events; and WHEREAS, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners is committed to actively working against the damaging effects of racism and other forms of bigotry and to ensuring the Constitutional rights of every person who lives, works and visits Cumberland County; and WHEREAS, all persons have the potential to contribute and an equal right to strive toward their most meaningful contribution to Cumberland County’s strengths and well-being; and WHEREAS, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will continue to be honest and transparent with internal and external stakeholders and will continue to build on the culture of trust and supporting equality within the community; and WHEREAS, in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens and visitors, the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners condemns racism, bigotry, hate and violence which cannot be tolerated in Cumberland County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners as representatives of Cumberland County government that we support the inherent human rights for all individuals and Constitutional protections guaranteed for all American citizens.
