The Newville Lions Club has regretfully made the decision to postpone its 61st Annual Newville Lions Community Fair until July of 2021.
The club will hold a drive-through Chicken BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, July 11, to help raise money for the club’s many important community projects.
“It is with great regret that the Newville Lions Club has decided to cancel the 61st Annual Newville Lions Community Fair. The fair is nearly a year-round project for the Lions. It is the primary source of income for the Lions’ project fund. Sponsors had been contacted, arrangements for entertainment had been made, the contract for fireworks had been finalized, and several girls had already expressed their desire to participate in one of the pageants,” a statement from the club reads. “With the coronavirus in mind, the Lions felt that they had to put the health and safety of the community first. The 61st Annual Newville Lions Fair will now be scheduled for July of 2021. Food, fireworks, entertainment, the pageants, the tractor pull and more will be back next year, and better than ever. The Lions want to extend their sincere thanks to the sponsors and all who have worked with them to prepare for this year’s fair.”
The club assured that the cancellation of the fair doesn’t mean that all is lost.
On Saturday, July 11, the club will hold a drive-through chicken, ribs and wings fundraiser at the fairgrounds, 437 Shippensburg Road, Newville. Dinners will include the meat, baked beans, applesauce, a roll with butter and a bottle of water. Dinners will be available from 11 a.m. until sold out. Cost is $10 for chicken dinners, $12 for rib dinners and $5 for a dozen wings.
Meals should be reserved before June 26.
Reserve meals by calling Christine Anderson at: (240) 446-3597 or Nancy Hockenberry at: (717) 776-4610. All proceeds will benefit the Newville Lions Club.
