Eighteen years ago on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, I remember walking to my first class of the day at Slippery Rock University. It was an early class, so I did not know what terror was unfolding in New York City until after I arrived in the classroom across campus.

What I do remember is looking up at the crisp blue sky, and thinking to myself, “Wow! What a beautiful day it is!” And it was. Until the nation was silenced by the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93 in Shanksville.
