Jerry C. Thomas Jr., 90, lifelong resident of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at his home.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1928, in Shippensburg, a son of the late Jerry C. Sr. and Violet Fitzgerald Thomas, Jerry was a U.S. Navy veteran, enlisting on May 3, 1945, and honorably discharged on Oct. 24, 1952.
He married Pamela F. Lowman on Feb. 14, 1976, in the former University Lodge, Shippensburg.
Jerry worked as a packaging specialist at the Naval Support Activity,
Mechanicsburg, for 38 years, retiring in 1984. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed being outdoors. He liked to spend time at his cabin in the Lower Horse Valley, hunting and fishing, or just simply walking through the woods. Jerry was interested in Native American archaeology and collected many Native American artifacts. He delighted in children and they loved him.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Pamela, he is survived by three daughters, Vicki Lee Thomas of Bellingham, Washington, Kristina Wile and husband, John McNeill, of Stow, Massachusett, and Stephanie W. Erdley and husband, Michael, of Stafford, Virginia; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Mary Swidler of Shippensburg; one stepsister, Betty Jane Wyrick; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by five siblings, Geraldine, Mildred, John, Richard and Martha.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, at
the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Joe Thomas will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a worthy veterans charity of one’s choice.
