Arlene L. Mixell

Arlene L. Mixell, 93, formerly of Newville and Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2019, at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

She was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Roy T. and Mamie J. (Bentz) Griest.

Arlene was the widow of Carl V. Mixell.

She was the former owner and operator of Arlene’s Grocery in Newville, and Arlene Mixell Beauty Shoppe in Carlisle. 

Arlene was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Vero Beach, Florida, and was a member of the church Women's Group.

She was a former Service Unit Director of the Hemlock Girl Scouts Council, and she enjoyed camping, crafting, playing games and completing puzzles. 

Arlene is survived by one son, Llonald E. Mixell (Vikki) of Vero Beach, Florida; two daughters, Dixie L. Miller (Mike Boritz) of Gainesville, Georgia, and Angela L. Hummel (Greg) of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, along with her parents and husband, by her son, Dennis A. Mixell; her daughter, Joy E. Myers; her granddaughter, Dawn Myers Jumper; and three sisters, Evelyn Keener, Reba Gettys and Ruthanna Rosenberger.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, in the Messiah Village Brethren in Christ Church, 100 Mount Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg.

A viewing was held from 1 to 2 p.m.Dec. 30, at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110, or the Gideon International Processing Center, P.O. Box 97251, Washington, D.C. 20090-7251.
