Kathleen D. Darius

 

Kathleen Dorcas “Kathy” Darius, 76, of Newville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Kathy was born in November of 1943 in the beautiful mountains of Webster Springs, West Virginia. She was the daughter of James Bell and Mary Frances Coe Gilles. Kathy’s 12 siblings include Marge Gilles Hall, Mildred Gilles Schrader, Dacie Gilles Schrader, Norma Gilles Tucker, Freeman Cogar, Artsil Cogar, Paulene Howell, Lonnie Cogar, Doy Cogar, Irene Cogar, Louise Cogar and Lela May Cogar.

She retired as a Department of the Army Civilian after 22 years distinguished service culminating in the position of Equal Employment Opportunity Officer. Kathy was also an entrepreneur, having owned a clothing store called New Beginnings, and co-owning Millrace LLC Realty Group.

She was a member of the Newville Lions Club and the Christian Bible Fellowship Church in Newville.

She was born and died in her beloved Appalachian mountain settings. She lived in Washington, D.C., and Tehran, Iran, and Newville, Pennsylvania, and attended the University of Maryland.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert G. Darius Sr.; her daughter, Roxanna; her son, Robert G. Darius Jr. and his wife, Naira; and her niece, Maxine Divelbliss. Kathy also has three grandchildren, Rachel Marie Russell, Sylvia Margarete Russell and Linnea Darius.

A private service will be planned in the Spring.
