Newville police said they were conducting a traffic stop in the 100 block of East Main Street on Sept. 18 when the officer heard a young boy yelling from a nearby first-floor apartment window.
The officer went to check on the welfare of the child (a 5-year-old), and smelled marijuana emanating from the window. Drug paraphernalia was also observed in plain view and in reach of the child. A resident allowed the officer to enter the apartment, where he seized the items in plain view. A search warrant was obtained, and police found various bongs, smoking devices, a scale, grinder and other paraphernalia. Police also recovered 4.4 grams of marijuana.
