North Newton Fire

Area firefighters work to extinguish a blaze at 2275 Ritner Highway in North Newton Township last Monday afternoon.

 

Several area fire companies were called to 2275 Ritner Highway, North Newton Township, last Monday afternoon for a reported building fire.

Fire Chief Dan Burkett of the South Newton Township Fire Co. said, “The call was dispatched at 1:23 p.m. for a building fire. A heavy smoke column could be seen from the station several miles away as units were responding. Upon arrival on the scene, we found several small buildings on fire, which included a storage trailer with car parts, a 10-by-12 shed with animals inside, which all escaped without harm, a 12-by-13 shed with car parts and a surrounding vinyl fence. The fire was brought under control within about 15 minutes, but units remained on the scene for about one hour performing salvage and overhaul operations.”
