Thursday was an emotional day at Letterkenny Army Depot as Col. Stephen Ledbetter delivered his tearful final speech before handing the reins over to Col. Gregory K. Gibbons.

“This is a Change of Command between two fine Army officers, but the final duty for one who has served with honor for 26 years,” William P. Marriott, deputy to the commanding general, said in his introduction. “This ceremony continues a tradition established long ago to pay homage to what has been, and what is to come. Our country is currently facing threats not imagined a decade ago that are very real. How we handle those threats relies on our commanders. Command is a definitive to the achievements of an officer’s career.”
