Our FFA chapter at Shippensburg Area Senior High School is largely involved with leadership events, community service, agricultural-based competitions, and advocating for agriculture. This past weekend, 12 of our members attended a leadership event, the Agricultural Corp. Establishing Success (ACES) conference. The conference is for high school students who are separated by grade with freshmen and sophomores in one track, and juniors and seniors in another. At ACES, the members learned about proper etiquette, communications skills, character building, good record keeping skills, SMART goals and Pennsylvania agriculture, among other things. The members enjoyed learning about the different aspects of Pennsylvania agriculture.
Our chapter is currently conducting a community service activity by sponsoring a supply drive for Puerto Rico after the recent natural disasters. We are asking for donations of toothbrushes, toothpaste, blankets sleeping bags and other essential items that can be shipped to victims in Puerto Rico. We are partnering with the Pennsylvania FFA and Puerto Rico FFA associations on this project. If you are interested in making a donation to the supply drive please contact Mrs. Bier at the high school. Donations will be accepted until Feb. 20.
