Franklin County District Attorney Matt Fogal approved the filing of a criminal complaint Friday against Larry Via, charging him with first-degree murder and robbery related to the Sept. 18, 1972, death of Morgan Peters.

This homicide investigation has continued for nearly 47 years, and was presented to the 2017 Franklin County Investigating Grand Jury, which concluded its work in 2019. At the conclusion of the months-long presentation of evidence to the Grand Jury, the body of jurors issued a presentment to Fogal, recommending criminal proceedings be instituted against Via in this matter, charging him with first-degree murder and robbery. In the intervening months, the case has been thoroughly reviewed in order to positively determine whether all relevant physical evidence and witnesses are available so many years later.
