Tractor Trailer Fire

Area firefighters work to extinguish a blaze that broke out inside of a tractor-trailer along the Pennsylvania Turnpike at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza in Newburg last Wednesday.

A tractor-trailer and its contents, all electronic goods, were consumed by flames around 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Newburg.

Deputy Fire Chief Randall Pryor of Newburg-Hopewell Fire Co. said, “We were dispatched for a rear wheel on fire of a tractor-trailer. While responding, we could see a column of black smoke visible and Cumberland 911 Dispatch then notified us of them now receiving multiple calls that the tractor-trailer was on fire. When we arrived on the scene, the trailer part was on fire toward the rear. We then called for additional apparatus to be dispatched to assist. The bulk of the fire was brought under control in about one hour, however we were on the scene for about two and half hours with extensive salvage and overhaul operations such as big screen televisions, computers, keyboards and many other electronics.”
