Katie’s Place is open!

After months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Katie’s Place, quite possibly the best kept shopping secret in Shippensburg, will open its doors once again to eager shoppers today and this weekend for its first big three-day event since March!

Shoppers will find all kinds of trinkets and treasures, from small appliances, household goods, furniture and children’s clothing, to glassware, linens, home décor and much, much more! Volunteers have been busy the past few weeks, sanitizing, reorganizing and sorting through donations and going through inventory to get ready for this week’s re-opening.

Of course, day-to-day operations will look a little different than what shoppers have been accustomed to in the past.

According to Sue Piper, director of Katie’s Place, “We are asking that all customers please wear a face covering or shield of some sort. It is a recommendation from our solicitor that we ask our customers to please abide by this protocol in order to protect both the customer and our volunteers. We simply ask that if you have a problem with this that you stay home until there comes a time when wearing a mask is not mandatory,” Piper said. She said they certainly don’t want to anger anyone, but this is a very sensitive issue, as well as an important one, and the health and well-being of the volunteers who work there and the customers who shop at Katie’s Place are their first priority.

Other safety measures implemented by Piper and her crew include purchasing additional shopping carts and installing plexiglass barriers between the cash register and the tables and display cases.

“We also have CDC-regulated cleaning supplies to clean the countertops and the shopping carts. Our main goal is to ensure the safety of everyone who works and shops at our store, so anything that we can do to help our customers feel safe, we have done,” Piper added.

Piper said Katie’s Place welcomes all of its customers back to the new normal.

“Although this is a difficult time for everybody, we want to make sure Katie’s Place is open for those people who need a quality item at a good price.” She said they have lots of children’s toys and clothing, holiday items, as well as lots of special items for both men and women, and an abundance of shoes! In addition, they also have a loaded housewares department with all kinds of kitchen goods and small appliances, so if you’re looking for that hard-to-find kitchen item, or something pretty basic, Katie’s probably has it!

Many folks have been asking about making donations to Katie’s Place as they have in the past. Right now they are not taking regular donations, but are continuing to discuss this matter and other issues that arise. Piper said they hope to resume taking donations in the near future, but a definite date has not yet been determined. She said if anyone has an emergency, they are requesting that you contact them, or make an appointment through Facebook at Katie’s Place Thrift Shop.

Katie’s Place is open June 25, 26 and 27, from 9 a.m.-noon. They are anxious to see everyone, so bring a hearty shopping appetite and a smile to 130 S. Penn St.
