The pandemic may have canceled the Shippensburg Community Fair, but the community can still pre-order some of their favorite indulgences -- including Cheeseburger Hoagies (like the popular Big Boys) -- and support local nonprofit organizations and businesses during Fair Food Weekend.

Organized by Downtown Organizations Investing Together (D.O.I.T.), Fair Food Weekend will be held July 23 through 25. Interested customers may pre-order their items through the D.O.I.T. website,, and click on Fair Food at the top right.

“Many organizations depend heavily on the funding obtained through food sales at the local Shippensburg Community Fair,” the event description reads. “Sadly, the fair was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this cancellation, D.O.I.T. of Shippensburg, in cooperation with many of the local organizations, local restaurants, and with support from the Shippensburg Community Fair, have decided to hold a Shippensburg Fair Food Weekend. Help us support these local organizations and businesses through food purchases Thursday, July 23, through Saturday July 25. We look forward to seeing you!”

Food orders may be picked up between 3 and 7 p.m. July 23 and 24, and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 25. Orders placed with Redemption BBQ, the WheelHouse Cafe and C.V. Hose Co. will be picked up at those locations, and all others will be picked up at the Shippensburg Fairgrounds on Possum Hollow Road. Organizers are reminding customers there is no eating food or loitering at the fairgrounds -- the location is for pick-up only.

“This idea was designed to help our local organizations try to regain a little supplemental income, as many of these groups depend on the fair for their major fundraisers,” Mayor Kathy Coy, member of D.O.I.T., said. “It also gives our community a TASTE of normalcy. Life has thrown us all a huge curve ball this year, we need a little taste of hope when we can get it. Please go online to the D.O.I.T. website and submit your pre-orders!”
