Memorial Lutheran Church

The town clock atop Memorial Lutheran Church has been a landmark in Shippensburg for more than a century. The historic clock has kept time over Shippensburg thanks to the labor of Ira Crusey, a devoted church member and clock keeper for more than two decades.

This offering of a Blast from the Past features a town baker and a borough clock; two subjects that you wouldn’t expect to come up in the same conversation.

The baker in the story is Ira Crusey, who as the article states in the Nov. 18, 1952, edition of The News-Chronicle, was the head operator at the cake plant of the Valley Baking Co. in Shippensburg.
